Like most of the beaches in Massachusetts, the surf tends to be light.

Duxbury Beach is one of the few beaches that allow horseback riding on the beach, but this does require a special permit. Kayaking and some great bird watching opportunities are available on the Inside Beach. Choose the Outside Beach for great walking among rolling dunes.

Duxbury has bountiful clam beds. Duxbury is also home to a wildlife sanctuary that is a primary habitat for migratory waterfowl and nesting birds. Bird watching opportunities are frequent at Duxbury Beach.

Best bet for accommodations is to go to neighboring Plymouth. There you will find many hotels from amongst the chains (www.bestwestern.com, www. Radisson.com). Plymouth is within a short driving distance of Duxbury.

Pets are allowed September through May. The rest of the year, they’re not allowed. No alcohol is allowed. Duxbury Beach attracts visitors from across the board. Plymouth Plantation is within a short driving distance so visitors interested in the history of the Pilgrims can include Duxbury Beach and Plymouth Plantation in their itinerary. A visit to Duxbury Beach is good anytime, but for those interested in swimming, tanning and other warm weather activities, stick to the summer months.
