The beach is within the grounds of the Salem Willows Park that contains a public pier, bandstand, picnic areas, children’s rides and places to eat. The park is renowned for its willow trees, which were planted in 1801 and provide shady spots to escape from the summer sun.
Salem Willows Beach abuts Salem Harbor so surf is generally very gentle. Fishing off the pier is popular. The park draws many visitors to its ample picnicking areas. No wildlife to speak of, but the scenery is outstanding. Pets are okay, No alcohol, driving on the beach or day use fees.
If you’re interested in the city of Salem, a “scary” visit should be made in October during Halloween in Salem, Massachusetts when there are numerous events throughout the city. For beach activities, a summer visit is best.
